Perry is a ~7-year-old male Rottie mix weighing in at 130 lbs. Yup, you read that right – he’s a big fluffy boy! While wandering around the streets of Philadelphia in May, Perry was picked up as a stray and brought to the animal control shelter. City of Elderly Love pulled him into rescue and immediately realized this poor boy had a lot going on.
First, he was treated for pneumonia, then he had a tumor removed from his hind end (fortunately it was benign), and finally he had surgery to address a severe old knee injury which made it hard for him to move around how he wanted. Needless to say, he’s had a busy three months! While he’s still recovering from his knee surgery, he is doing very well and is expected to be cleared for normal activity within the next few weeks.
Perry loves to be with his people and he’s a full-size shadow. He currently lives in foster care with 4 other dogs. While he does really well with his foster siblings, he can be pushy and assertive if he feels he’s not getting enough attention. Because of this, he would do best with an independent and laidback sibling or siblings and no young children in the household. Perry hasn’t been cat tested, but he hasn’t displayed any prey drive with squirrels or other small animals.
Perry loves belly rubs, going on walks, being brushed, and chewing on his bones. He eats well and he’s house trained. While still in pain prior to his knee surgery and while recovering from pneumonia, Perry had an incident where he bit his foster mom. He did not break skin, but worth noting to potential future families. Given Perry’s size and temperament, he would do best with a confident leader who will provide consistent and firm training methods. Experience with giant breeds is required.
Perry is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting this gorgeous boy? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at email@example.com!
