Meet Odin! This 4 to 5 year old guy is in search of a new home! Odin loves other dogs and is submissive to them, is good with cats except for an occasional chase with the intent to play, and adores his immediate family members. He's playful and affectionate and enjoys their attention. BUT, Odin needs very slow introductions to people outside of his family members as he is fearful of new or unexpected situations. Slow does not mean a couple of introductions. It means introductions until he's comfortable and at his pace. Odin was quite comfortable going to his crate when his previous owners had company so that works best. He definitely needs a home with either no children or dog savvy children over 12 who will recognize if he's uncomfortable and give him supervised time to warm up to them.
Odin's previous home had a yard with electric fencing and also a section that has a physical fence both of which he used for play and exercise. Due to jobs with long hours and a toddler, Odin was rarely walked in the 3 years they owned him. He knows how to walk on a leash, that isn't the issue. He walks well with his current owner both alone and alongside another person also walking their dog. We witnessed that. But he trusted them and was confident when with them so he did not feel the need to react. It took time to get him to that point. If rushed into accepting too much too fast, he is quite reactive on a leash when faced with the unexpected. He is not a mean dog, but he is an anxious dog who will lash out if overwhelmed.
Do you have a quiet home? A fenced yard? Patience? Not bothered by foregoing walks in favor of play and exercise in the yard? Experience in training using positive reinforcement? Odin needs a home who has a passion for the rescue of dogs with special needs. Given the right environment, he has tons of love to give. If so, and you'd like to help this boy enjoy his life again, please submit our application for consideration.
